Located in northern Alberta, near Fort Vermillion, is the Anishinabe Tallcree First Nation. There are 7 Reserves which make up this First Nation that covers an area of 9,387 total hectares or 23,195 total acres. Total population is 1,044, with most (547) living away from the Reserves, while 493 live on-reserve, and 4 live on crown land. Many can trace their origins back to Montana, where they originally lived but were driven out by the whites, after the 1868-1886 war. Ogimak Big Bear or Sitting Bull led them up to Canada.
